Poughkeepsie – Louis Bertolozzi, 88, of Poughkeepsie, died on Friday, December 24, 2021, at Vassar Bros. Hospital in Poughkeepsie.
Born January 31, 1933 in Lucca, Italy, he was the son of the late Pietro Bertolozzi and Bruna Angeli.
Luigi loved Life! He enjoyed sharing food and laughter with his family most of all. He married Silvana, his wife of 64 years, in Spilimbergo, Italy on July 20, 1957, and made Poughkeepsie his home. Luigi and Silvana were blessed with three children, Gianpietro, Elizabeth, and Laura.
He worked as a tile setter for Bricklayers & Allied Craftsmen until his retirement, returning years later to admire his many tiled masterpieces.
His garden was also a source of great pride, and his tomatoes won “Best Tomato Contest” locally several years in a row.
He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing with his brothers, friends, and later with his son.
He particularly relished the role of Nonno to his three grandchildren, Lucas, Caroline, and Simon.
All who knew him were touched by his devotion, his kindness, and his warmth.
He is survived by his three children, Gianpietro Bertolozzi and partner, Debi Lee; Elizabeth Bertolozzi and fiancé, Carl R. Richter II (Boston MA), and Laura Bertolozzi; and three grandchildren, Lucas, Caroline, and Simon Douglas.
He is also survived by his brother, Mario Bertolozzi, two sisters-in-law, Rosanna Bertolozzi and Raffaella Bertolozzi, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Dante Bertolozzi and Paolo Bertolozzi; his sister Anna Bertolozzi, and sister-in-law Lida Bertolozzi.
Calling hours will be from 4 to 7pm, on Wednesday, December 29, at Sweet’s Funeral Home, Rte. 9, Hyde Park, NY 12538.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Fr. Michael Morris at Regina Coeli Church at 10am on Thursday, December 30, 2 Harvey Street, Hyde Park, NY 12538.
Burial will follow in the family plot at St. Peter’s Cemetery, Poughkeepsie.
Arrangements are under the direction of Sweet’s Funeral Home, Inc., Rte. 9, Hyde Park.
