How to drift in Forza Horizon 5

The key to learning to drift is knowing how each car decision influences the following stage. To begin safely and controllably, learn to swing past traffic cones with your handbrake.

To master the drift, you must first learn the ability to time your turns perfectly. Once you’re comfortable making a 180-degree turn through the cones, try it on a real corner. The goal is to finish the turn with your vehicle’s body facing the direction you need to drive next.

This is done through counter-steering, which is turning away from the initial direction you were travelling. Practice until you can do it automatically, then try taking a second corner when you’re ready.

The second corner is hard since you are no longer leading into it neutrally. Your car has already swung one corner, and if you’re even slightly offline, saving the drift might be difficult. If you can’t do it, skip the first turn and take the second alone.

This will assist you to determine where you should be after the first turn. This condition requires a lot of steering with your gas, throttle, and brake controls, so play with different speeds, ratios, and stopping methods until you find what works for your automobile.

Once you’ve mastered these turns, try drifting without your handbrake. This requires a new degree of skill, but results in a cleaner and more reproducible drift. Using the brakes for anything other than shoring up or extending the distance your car stays in the turn is unnecessary in this edition.

Best settings for drifting

A few critical parameters make drifting considerably easier and allow each player to establish their own style. Among all the game’s options, these will have the greatest impact on your drifting ability:

  • Braking: ANTI-LOCK OFF
  • Steering: STANDARD
  • Traction Control: OFF
  • Stability Control: OFF
  • Shifting: MANUAL + CLUTCH

After mastering Standard steering, going to Simulation increases the difficulty, but also provides the most realistic steering experience. It will take some getting used to, but it is vital if you want to perfect the skill.
