Chester Allen Wilson, 96, Grand Rapids, died Jan. 4, 2022, at Pilgrim Manor in Grand Rapids.
A service was held at Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home, St. Helen, Jan. 8. Burial was in Fairview Township Cemetery, with military honors.
He was born Sept. 26, 1925, in Gillmore, KY, the son of Boyd and Lizzie (Burcham) Wilson. He had lived in Grand Rapids for the past two years and was formerly of St. Helen.
Mr. Wilson had served in the United States Navy.
He worked for the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Department as a captain for 18 years and retired from Ypsilanti Community Utilities Authority after 22 years of employment. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Preceding him in death were his parents; wife, Mary; children, Phyllis (Burt) Riley, Chester Wilson and Janet (Tim) Hall; grandson, Scott; brother, Boyd; and son-in-law, Rockie Carter.
Surviving are his children, Tammy Carter of KY, Allen (Shari) Wilson of Belding, and Michelle (Mike) Doyel of Jackson; 14 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and daughter-in-law, Barbara Wilson.
