With a nip in the air and an extreme cold warning in today’s forecast, we’re on the edge of our seats waiting for the summer months to roll back around. Can’t wait for the sun to come out? Alberta Parks wants to kickstart your camping season with a major new update that will make booking a campsite easier and more convenient – no matter the time of year.
Like many of you, there’s nothing that we love more than cracking a few beers in the woods, among friends and wildlife in celebration of longer days and warmer nights – but man, did we loathe the mad dash to book a campsite in Alberta come the springtime.
Luckily, this year, starting on January 11th, Alberta Parks will allow those who are ready to pitch a tent to book a campsite well ahead of go time.
“This update will help reduce booking changes, overbooking and no-shows, which will give more Albertans the opportunity to experience camping in our provincial parks,” they wrote on their website.
According to Alberta Parks, letting people book year-round will help to reduce the volume of online users and promote a fairer opportunity and access for all Albertans – as opposed to the few on standby with a calendar full of dates.
Of course, there are a few rules to follow when snagging the perfect spot.
Come next month, Albertans will now be able to reserve an individual campsite up to 90 days in advance, however – you’ll only be able to book a maximum of 10 nights at a single site (which is a bump down from 16.)
In addition, the booking window will advance by one day each morning at 9:00 am in hopes of providing fair and equal access to those online and in the call centre.
If you’d like more information about Camping in Alberta or would like to book your spot now, you can do so, starting in mid January.
Happy Camping, happy campers!
