Covid-19 positive man caught after travelling from Bay of Plenty to Wellington


A Covid-19 positive man who fled his self-isolation address in Bay of Plenty has been caught in the lower North Island.

He has been at a service station in Ōtaki on the Kāpiti Coast, and had planned to travel on a ferry from Wellington to Picton on Friday evening.

The Ministry of Health asked police for help in finding the man.

“In this instance, subsequently, the person contacted public health staff,” a spokesperson said. “Follow-up is being completed and the person is now isolating appropriately.”

It is as yet unknown how many locations of interest will stem from the man’s journey from Bay of Plenty towards the Wellington region.

It’s understood the man was trying to travel to Dunedin, where he’s from.

The police have been approached for comment.
