CHENNAI: Southern Railway has stopped 2,177 people from travelling in suburban trains in Chennai as they did not have vaccination certificates since the rule came into effect on Monday.
Railways has said that only people who have taken two doses of vaccine will be allowed to travel on suburban trains. Commuters should produce the certificate to buy tickets and to renew season tickets.
The 12-digit number of Covid vaccination certificates issued after the second dose is fed in the unreserved ticketing system (UTS) to issue season tickets. The last digit of the vaccine certificate’s number will be printed on the season ticket.
Crackdown on people without masks at stations and trains too have been intensified. Thirty one cases were registered, and a total fine of Rs 15,500 was collected.
