Sunday on a whim | RichZ’s Bass Blog

Had no plans to fish this previous Sunday, however determined on the final minute, to take a journey all the way down to the mouth of the Housy and do some scouting. Sadly, the wind made exploring within the sound a really uncomfortable proposition. After catching a handful of porgies, a white perch(!) and the primary cunner I’ve caught since I used to be a child, soaking sandworms off the Pleasure Seashore breakwater, I retired to the river.

Acquired to set the hook much more within the river than I had out within the sound. Largely sea robins, however a half-dozen undersized fluke, too. If the biggest of the fluke was an inch longer (even 3/4 of an inch!) it might have taken a journey dwelling with me, and met my frying pan. Alas, it was slightly below 18, and wanted to be 18½” to take that journey.

I went out with low expectations, and possibly did higher — by way of what number of occasions I received to set the hook — than I had hoped to. Would have been good to catch a pair stripers, or perhaps a blue or two. Additionally would have been good if the wind laid down earlier, and afforded me extra time to discover my favourite rock piles near the mouth of the Housy.

However below cloudless skies with wind and no plan, I’ll take what I can get.
